Stenbom investigates human behaviour and the interplay between fiction and everyday life, exploring how seemingly insignificant and mundane moments reveal underlying social and psychological structures. Through moving image, observational film, semi-scripted performance, and participatory methods, Stenbom’s practice is a site of investigation where lived experience and reflective observation become tools for both illustration and conceptual exploration.
Currently in development Weight, integrates biodata and sonification to translate the physical intensity of weightlifting into sensory experience, merging physiological measurement with artistic expression. Freedom to Move (2025) follows blind footballer Rainbow Mbuangi, chronicling his daily routines foregrounding sound as a primary source for navigating and interpreting the world. Diem (2019) observes the hidden rhythms of institutional life, capturing individuals within civic, legal, educational and third-sector spaces through a narration-free, observational lens. Bad News (2023), is reconstruction of a corporate role-play training “sacking” scenario exploring the performance of empathy inside bureaucratic hierarchies. The installation Radio Off (2023) documents and reimagines the daily commute as an “anti-road movie” emphasising the quotidian and the repetitive to reveal the oppressive underside of everyday mobility. Rules of Engagement (2018) presenting three vignettes of everyday interactions, based on lived experience, exposing the tacit social protocols.
